Welcome to the website of the Catholic Church in Sierra Leone.
“The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the people of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ.”
Inspired by those opening words of the Second Vatican Council’s Pastoral Constitution of the Church in the Modern World, Gaudium et Spes, the Catholic Church in Sierra Leone continues to bring the saving message of Christ to the people of the land, through the various pastoral activities of the dioceses and Catholic projects in the country. On this site, you are invited to share the missionary activity of the Church in Sierra Leone. |
On the 9th May 2013, the Feast of the Ascension, the Dioceses in Sierra Leone held a national celebration of the Year of Faith in the Catholic Diocese of Bo. This is in response to the proposition of Pope Benedict XVI (Emeritus) who had asked that Catholics all over the world should pay particular attention to their faith and its expressions in a visible and tangible way. The celebrations were led by the Bishops, Priests, Religious and Lay Faithful from all the Dioceses in the country. Highlights of the celebrations were: pilgrimage, spiritual exercises and climaxed with the Holy Eucharist at the Immaculate Heart Cathedral, Bo City.
